DM8880

DM8880 is a high-voltage 7-segment decoder/driver integrated circuit (IC) primarily used to drive gas-filled display tubes, such as Sperry and Panaplex II displays. It is often found in vintage electronics like pinball machines and early digital test equipment.

DM8880 Technical Specifications

The National Semiconductor DM8880 (also known as the DM7880 in extended temperature ranges) decodes four lines of BCD (Binary Coded Decimal) into 7-segment format. 

• Package Type: Standard 16-pin DIP (Dual In-line Package).
• Voltage Compliance: Features current sinks with a voltage range from 3V to at least 80V.
• Output Current: Adjustable between 0.2 mA to 1.5 mA using an external program resistor ( Rp), allowing for even illumination across different segment types.
• Key Features: Includes Blanking Input for unconditional display blanking and Ripple Blanking pins to handle leading or trailing zeros.
